The fast-growing company is due to open in a 2,000 sq ft unit at Marlborough Business Park in February, although some branded signage at the trade counter unit has already been erected.

The firm is currently opening an average of one store every week - in 2013 it opened 300 new outlets - and employs 80,000.

Screwfix chief executive Andrew Livingston said: “It really is a case of time is money for our customers because they are busy out and about on the road, from job to job.

“So we’re doing all we can to help them buy the tools and accessories they need as quickly and easily as possible. As we open the doors to more and more stores across the country, we become even more convenient for our customers.

“This, topped with our Click & Collect technology, mobile website and smartphone apps means that customers can shop when they want and how they want.

“Tradesmen rely on us for the ease and speed of online and over-the-phone ordering, but they also enjoy the store experience thanks to regular – often daily - interaction with staff, many of whom have a background in the trade.”

News of the opening was greeted with enthusiasm by Marlborough Chamber of Commerce. President Alex Minoudis, who Brewin Dolphin office is also based at the Business Park, said: “We welcome Screwfix to the business community. It is great to see another well-known national brand adding to the vitality of Marlborough Business Park.

“We’re sure the outlet will enjoy tremendous success.”

Screwfix was founded in 1979 as a mail order business called Woodscrew Supply Company, and was dedicated to selling screws.

The Screwfix brand was established in 1992 and a web launch in 1999 was followed by the firm’s first physical store in Yeovil in 2005. By 2008 it had 100 physical stores, and by 2012 there were 200 and in October last year it opened its 300th.

Its turnover in 2012 was £540m. Typically, its stores offer a line of 11,000 products, with a further 3,000 available online or by telephone.
