Open Studios is key to property agent’s reputation as patron of the arts

Edward Hall and Lisi AshbridgeEdward Hall and Lisi AshbridgeLand and property agent Smiths Gore – which is building a reputation as a supporter of the arts – has been confirmed as lead sponsor of of the Marlborough Open Studios art initiative, which will see around 70 artists opening their doors to the public every weekend in July.

The relationship started when Smiths Gore opened its ‘Empty Wall’ Gallery in its offices on the High Street, inviting local amateur and professional artists to display their work to the public.

The current exhibition features watercolours of Marlborough street scenes by architectural artist Colin Palmer.

Smiths Gore has also launched its Schools Art Competition to primary schools around Marlborough. Pupils in years 5 & 6 have been invited to submit art on the theme of ‘My Home’. Judging by local artists will take place in May and prizes have been donated by White Horse Bookshop.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Open Studios scheme. Chairman Lisi Ashbridge, a stone carver, said: “The artists are delighted to have Smiths Gore – land and property agents in Marlborough supporting our cause. Smiths Gore has shown a real affinity to our work and their support has helped MOS develop our art trail – 2015 will be our most ambitious to date.”

Open Studios is expanding into more areas of Wiltshire and Berkshire than ever before and promises an art studio trail that will unveil many hidden treasures. There are works ranging from small curios, jewellery, glass and ceramics to large sculptures, bronzes and epic landscapes.

Edward Hall of Smiths Gore said, “Smiths Gore as a trusted provider of quality service in land and property is always associated with excellence in design. We are therefore delighted to be the lead sponsor for Marlborough Open Studios this year.”
