Celebrating and Remembering - The Memorial Hall Festival 2018

A festival of celebration and remembrance will be held in Marlborough College’s newly renovated Memorial Hall from November 1 to Sunday November 11.  With a backdrop of the 749 names of Marlburians who died in World War I newly engraved and illuminated, the festival offers many events that are open free to the public if a ticket is reserved in advance.

Philip Dukes, artistic director, explained that the festival’s eclectic choice of programme brings to a close the College’s four years of commemorative World War I events.

There are lectures by: Brian Anderson, adventurer and photographer, Dr Jean Moorcroft Wilson, the biographer and critic of World War I poets and poetry, Revd Canon Andrew Studdert Kennedy on Woodbine Willie, and Dr Jeremy Black, Professor of History at the University of Exeter.

There is music as part of the Marlborough College Concert Series with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.  This will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Tickets are £20, available from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

There is also an evening with England football legend, Stuart Pearce and a film evening with a showing of ‘La Grande Illusion’ by Jean Renoir.
