Remembrance Sunday: Marlborough remembers

The Last Post rings out as Colours are lowered during the Remembrance Parade at the Barn Street War MemorialThe Last Post rings out as Colours are lowered during the Remembrance Parade at the Barn Street War MemorialThe sun shone for Marlborough's Armistice Centenary Remembrance Parade.  Mayor Lisa Farrell led today's wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial adjacent to the Barn Street roundabout.

The array of wreaths laid during this morning's ceremonyThe array of wreaths laid during this morning's ceremonyShe was followed by Wiltshire Councillor Stewart Dobson, laying a wreath on behalf Claire Perry MP, Councillor James Sheppard - Deputy Chairman of Wiltshire Council on behalf of the Council and Lt Col Simon Puxley, Commanding Officer of 4MI on the Batallion's behalf.  They were followed by representatives of Marlborough's many institutions, each respecting the day with their own act of Remembrance.


The Ceremony commenced in the High Street where the Mayor inspected the troops of 4MI Battalion before being led by Phoenix Brass along the High Street, past the Town Hall, along New Road and Oxford Street bfore turning right down Barn Street to the 1914 - 1918 War Memorial.

The prayers and short address were conducted by the Revd Dr Janneke Blokland and Marian Hananford-Dobson gave the exhortation on behalf of the British legion.  The Ceremony concluded with a service at St Mary's Church.
