"Whip crack-away! Whip crack-away! Whip crack-away!" - Stagecoach Marlborough expands under new management

A Stagecoach class underway for Mrs Worthington's younger children!A Stagecoach class underway for Mrs Worthington's younger children!Stagecoach Marlborough, which offers singing, dancing and drama classes for children and young people aged 4-18 years has doubled in size since its re-launch in January 2017.

Held at St John’s Academy, Marlborough every Saturday in term time, 4-6 year olds can participate in a 90 minute session, while the 6-18 year olds are split into three age appropriate groups for a three hour session in each of the complementary Musical Theatre disciplines of singing, dancing & drama.

Principal Jenny Unthank told marlborough.news: “Stagecoach is all about developing creative courage for life. It’s not about being the best but about doing your best. It’s about taking risks in a safe environment and developing the
confidence and skills that will serve you well in life.”

“We nurture the shy and apprehensive, until they find their feet and voice, whilst at the same time developing and channelling those with bundles of talent, confidence and energy. We believe in the potential of every child!”

“Most importantly it’s about having fun. School can be very academic and a lot of the creativity gets lost. This is a chance to put it back.”

Stagecoach has a different focus every three terms in their year, which begins in the New Year. In term one participants work to perform in a show. This term it’s The Wild, Wild, West which will be performed to parents on December 2.

On November 26 a group of older students also have the opportunity to perform at the Shaftesbury Theatre, London with Stagecoach Newbury to an audience of
2,500 parents!

In term two the focus is on developing skills in singing (pitch, breathing, harmonies), in drama (improvisation, voice projection, team dynamics) and in dance (choreography, different styles, steps).

Term three is the demonstration term which culminates in the presentation performance to parents.

Stagecoach also organises numerous theatre trips and offers the chance to take exams set by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). Reports on students’ progress are sent to parents every year.

Principal Jenny Unthank leads a team of six specialist teachers. Nina Boyer, the singing coach also manages the Sinfonia of London Orchestra whose soundtrack recordings include Batman, The Snowman, Stargate, The Mummy Returns and
Silverado.

The new term begins on Saturday, January 6 and new members are welcome.  It is possible to take a two week taster session before committing to the whole term.
