The latest novel by Elizabeth Buchan, I Can’t Begin to Tell You, has been named as this year’s Marlborough Festival of Literature Big Town Read.
The novelist was voted by local book groups, and readers across the Marlborough area are being urged to grab and enjoy a copy of I Can’t Begin to Tell You before Buchan appears at the Lit Fest on Sunday, October 2.
And copies of the book will be made available free of charge as part of the annual World Book Night this Saturday (April 23).
Buchan is best known for her novels The Good Wife, and Consider the Lily. Her short stories have been broadcast on Radio 4 and she regularly reviews for the Sunday Times and Daily Mail.
I Can’t Begin to Tell You has been billed as a great read for anyone who loves The Imitation Game and spy dramas.
“A powerful story set in World War II England and Denmark, this compelling novel covers code-cracking, fearless women taking on brave new roles, loyalty and love,” say the organisers of World Book Night, The Reading Agency.
“A wonderful piece of historical fiction perfect for anyone interested in the incredible goings-on at Bletchley Park during the war.”
World Book Night, now in its sixth year, is an annual celebration of reading and books run by The Reading Agency – the charity with a mission to inspire more people to read more, encourage them to share their enjoyment of reading and celebrate the difference that reading makes to all our lives.
Every year on April 23, volunteers give away hundreds of thousands of books from a selected list of titles in their communities to share their love of reading and encourage those people who don’t read for pleasure or own books.
Genevieve Clarke, programme manager at The Reading Agency said: “Elizabeth Buchan is a great supporter of our work and of spreading the word about the power of reading to change lives.
“We’re delighted that I Can’t Begin to Tell You will be this year’s Big Town Read at Marlborough LitFest as well being one of our titles for World Book Night.”
