A stylish white horse and a blue river: Marlborough & Pewsey GPs choose a new logo

The recently merged Marlborough and Pewsey GP services - now known as the Kennet & Avon Medical Partnership - have marked another stage in their development by adopting a new logo.

At the time of the merger earlier this year, which was to establish a sustainable primary care service for the area and which called for a new identity, it was decided to hold a competition for local school pupils to design a logo.

As, Chris Lincoln-Jones, the project manager for the merger, put it: "The team wanted a new badge as an outward expression of these changes and wanted it to reflect both the areas encompassed by the two surgeries."  So they offered St John’s Academy and Pewsey Vale School the opportunity to design a logo for signage and stationery.  Only Pewsey Vale School took up the challenge.

The Pewsey students who took part were all from Nina Davis’s art class, who sit their GCSEs next year. Seven of them submitted art that went to the judges. From these two were selected - by Ella Torrens and Hannah Parsonds - that represented what the doctors were after: one was a graphic design and the other a drawing.  They both reflected the local countryside's rivers, downs and white horses.

The final logo design drew elements from both pictures to create a graphic that will soon become part of the Marlborough and Pewsey community.

The Partnership Board was so impressed by the standard of the submissions that they decided not only to award prizes to the joint winners, but also to give White Horse Book Shop Vouchers to all the students who took part. Two of the Partnership's doctors, Anna Collings from Pewsey and Jenny Campbell from Marlborough, went to the final assembly of the school year to present the awards.

Chris Lincoln-Jones: "Our thanks go to the outgoing and much-loved head of Pewsey School, Carol Grant, for allowing us the honour of attending the Assembly and award well deserved prizes to such talented students."

There was one design submitted for the competition that delighted the judges - providing them with a good deal of amusement.  In fact, although light-hearted and a bit quirky, the design might well have cheered up a few patients too!
