NHS at 70 - Happy Birthday from the Great Bedwyn Surgery!Staff and patients at Great Bedwyn Surgery raised a cup or two to the NHS with a Tea and Cake Garden party on Thursday, in recognition of the NHS 70th Birthday.
Sue Woods , Nurse and resident cake maker at the Bedwyn surgery made two fabulous cakes to mark the occasion, and with a supply of other sweet and savoury offerings everyone felt suitably refreshed and nourished by the end of the afternoon.
Bathed in glorious sunshine everyone mingled and chatted on the surgery lawn having a great time, taking in the delights of the transformed borders of the garden from overgrown jungle to a palete of colour with roses, begonias, and also the community herb garden establishing itself, all thanks to the Octagenarian Gardner Eric Bailey, who has made the surgery gardens his pet project over the last seven to eight months. The surgery recognised all his hard work by gifting him a granite plaque which will take pride of place in the garden.
The Friends of Savernake Hospital also helped out by loaning some of the Savernake Hospital artefacts that they hold, which patients found most interesting. These were displayed in the surgery treatment room alongside some of the much more modern equipment that the surgery now uses.
Patients were very generous, making voluntary contributions for tea and cake, and £85 was raised in just a couple of hours for Alzheimers Support.
