Grants enable upgrade at Great Bedwyn SurgeryPatients, doctors and staff at Great Bedwyn Surgery are enjoying the extension and renovation of the premises. Grants amounting to just over £5,600 have allowed work on the former Victorian school house to be carried out.
Friends of Savernake Hospital and the Community contributed over £1,870 to the cost and the remaining costs were covered in a grant from Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
A former ‘privy’ which was being used as a record store has now been transformed into an office space and an additional consulting room. Patient records are now stored online allowing easy access for a GP during a consultation.
Keith Marshall is the Practice Manager: “The Practice is very grateful for the help and assistance provided by Wiltshire CCG and the Friends of Savernake Hospital and the Community. This new workspace, will enable the Practice to extend its training capacity for new GPs, and help to accommodate the ever-increasing number of attached professionals to Practices that is/will be occurring over the next few years under the NHS Forward Plan.”
The extra space was much needed as Great Bedwyn Surgery had almost outgrown its existing premises. Janet Louth is Chairman of the Friends: “This is an extremely innovative and effective transformation of an old record store room into much-needed office and consultation space at the surgery.”
