Retirement housing? A Marlborough exile explains why he’s in favour

Written by James Milsom on .

Sirs

I was born and bred in Marlborough and visit it regularly to catch up with the remnants of my family.   I have been following with interest the controversy over the various planning applications for retirement flats and their perceived adverse effects on the housing prospects of the young people of Marlborough.

I cannot help but notice that during my walks around the town I never meet anyone I grew up with.

I venture to suggest that is because there has never been enough well paid work in Marlborough to keep them there.   What is the point of providing housing for people who must leave to find decent employment.   Better surely to build for elderly homesick exiles - like me!
