Wiltshire Council and Balfour Beatty to part company

Written by Terry Chivers on .

Sirs,

So at long last Wiltshire Council, have parted company with contractors Belfour Beatty.  I’m sure that I’m not going to be the only one to say I told you so - after all it was only a matter of time.

I seem to remember being told at endless meetings by senior Conservative Councillors that this all singing dancing contract was performing well, and those who were critical of the contract were talking total rubbish.   We had sky high grass, the public and press were up in arms, and we were told it was only two per cent of the contract, and we should be looking at the bigger picture.

The sad thing is that as always, the hard working staff who deliver the front line services will be the first ones to suffer when the cut backs start, which is so unfair when mistakes have been made further up the ladder.

The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group Councillor, Jon Hubbard, is right to be calling for a full independent investigation.  Someone must be held to account for this mess. However if past performance is anything to go by, I think it’s very unlikely.  They will just be moved sideways.

Yours,

Terry Chivers
Independent Wiltshire Councillor
