Brexit: MP's support urged for a new vote

Sirs,
Claire Perry’s statement on why she abstained from voting with the government, against an amended motion to rule out any prospect of a no deal Brexit, is at best convoluted and further confuses the issue at a time when clarity is needed.

She claims to be an ardent supporter of Theresa May whilst at the same time defying the Conservative whip and gives no plausible explanation for doing so. .

I am however hopeful that having defied her government once she may now be persuaded to support what many of her constituents want - ‘a peoples vote’ to decide the final outcome of Brexit.

Three years on from the referendum we now know much more about what is in store for us if/when we leave the EU.

We can’t ignore what we have learnt with the very simplistic “we won you lost” attitude of the Nigel Farage brigade.  This is not a football match where the losers just have get over it, there is far too much at stake.

Why is the government so afraid of another referendum? The implication is that they know remain will win next time. To not allow it to happen is a denial of democracy and reckless in the extreme. Playing with people’s lives for party political gain, pitting parliament against the people - as Theresa May did last week in her podium speech - shows that our political system is broken and change is desperately needed.
