Devizes and Marlborough Extinction Rebellion's First Demand: Tell the Truth
Supporters of Devizes and Marlborough Extinction Rebellion (XR) joined others in Bristol last week to highlight the emerging the climate and ecological disaster that is unrolling fast across our world. While Governments are abrogating responsibility for taking the necessary action to help mitigate the very worst impacts, it’s left to citizens to motivate them.
So, citizens of Marlborough, please join us on the High Street for a funeral march on Saturday 28 September, to commemorate the massive loss of wildlife that our planet has already seen and the havoc being wreaked by the climate crisis, and to help raise awareness about the impending devastation that we can all expect unless radical changes are made to our entire society and economy without delay.
Many people of course know that there are concerns around climate and biodiversity loss but it does seem that they don’t perhaps appreciate the extent and the urgency of the crisis. Hence our first demand is that the Government ‘tell the truth’ and works with others to communicate the emergency.
We've had a dry summer here but there are cities and regions worldwide on the literal brink of running out of water; other places where sea-level rise and flooding will result in large-scale migration and resulting social disruption. My vegetables don't like the more extreme heat we're experiencing but on a global scale, yields are being adversely affected where it's so much hotter and dryer.
