A young jockey, who was seriously injured in a road traffic collision last weekend, has died as a result of head injuries.
John Goggin (20) died on Saturday, having spent the six days following the accident in a coma.
Mr Goggin, who lived in Wrougton but was well known in Marlborough, worked at Alan King Racing at Barbury Castle and was returning home from racing in Cheltenham at the time of the crash.
A tribute on the Facebook Page of the Jockeys Work Education and Training Scheme, with whom he qualified in 2011, said: “He lived, loved and was loved. He experienced the excitement of Cheltenham.”
The accident happened at around 11.45pm on Sunday, November 15 when a silver Toyota Corolla driven by Mr Goggin was involved in a collision with a blue Audi A4 and a black Vauxhall Astra.
The collision occurred on the A346 between Marlborough and Swindon, close to the Ogbourne Downs Golf club.
As a result of the collision four people sustained injuries.
The driver of the Audi sustained multiple leg injuries. He is still in hospital.
The passenger and driver of the Astra, both women from Bristol, suffered minor injuries.
The A346 was completely closed to traffic in both direction for more than four hours to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information that could assist in the investigation is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
