Unexploded mortar found in Pewsey
Army bomb disposal experts were dispatched to Pewsey this morning after a resident dug up an unexploded mortar, believed to date from the second world war.
Police were called to Wilcot Road at 11am this morning (Tuesday).
The three-inch mortar was removed by the Tidworth-based Royal Logistic Bomb Disposal Unit.
The explosive was found by Mark Sheen of forestry contractor Wootton Woodland, who wrote on Facebook: “We dug up an old anti tank landmine, turned out to be inert, but could not risk not having it checked.”
Neighbour Alan Coxon grabbed a camera and captured the action.
