Unexploded mortar found in Pewsey

Picture by Alan CoxonArmy bomb disposal experts were dispatched to Pewsey this morning after a resident dug up an unexploded mortar, believed to date from the second world war.

Police were called to Wilcot Road at 11am this morning (Tuesday).

The explosive was found by Mark Sheen of forestry contractor Wootton Woodland, who wrote on Facebook: “We dug up an old anti tank landmine, turned out to be inert, but could not risk not having it checked.”

Neighbour Alan Coxon grabbed a camera and captured the action.
