New girls’ boarding house announced for Marlborough College
The new House will provide accommodation for seventy girls and will bring the total number of students up to just under the thousand at 990. There is great demand for places at the College and the additional space created by this development will help manage that pressure.
Planning permission has been requested for the construction of the new House on the North side of the A4 in parallel to four other Boarding Houses belonging to the College.
The new House has been carefully designed to complement the natural surroundings and other buildings close by and is expected to cost in excess of £5 million. It will also create an extra twenty five new jobs for the town.
“We are delighted to be announcing a further expansion and the opportunity to bring the balance of boys and girls closer together.” stated the Master of Marlborough College, Mr Jonathan Leigh. He added: “The new House will carry the name Dancy House to commemorate former Master, John Dancy, and his wife, Angela, who introduced girls to the College for the first time nearly 50 years ago.”
