The Aldbourne Band went to last weekend’s West of England brass band contest in Torquay full of hope that they would qualify for the National Championships of Great Britain. They have been aiming at a place in the national contest at the Royal Albert Hall for 35 years.
This year they made it – taking third place and qualifying for October’s national championships. They will be representing the West Country with The Flowers Band from Gloucester and the Woodfalls Band from South Wiltshire.
Aldbourne Band’s musical director, David Johnson, was overjoyed at their success: “It was one of the best days of my life.”
You can hear this winning band when they play at the Bouverie Hall in Pewsey on April 9 – a concert of ‘Music from the Musicals’.
And later in April they will be playing a St George’s Day concert in Marlborough Town Hall.
