The Safe Place scheme is coming to Pewsey. A Safe Place provides initial support to anyone – old or young – who feels confused, lost or vulnerable when out and about in their community.
Anyone taking advantage of a Safe Place – which can be a shop, library, café or bar – will be listened to, reassured, supported and offered time and somewhere to wait – somewhere safe.
The scheme involves local businesses and organisations signing up, ensuring their staff know what they need to do to reassure people and keep them safe. They display a prominent Safe Place sticker (right) in their window.
The Pewsey Community Area partnership is working with the Safer and More Supportive Communities Group at Wiltshire Council and with local businesses to implement the scheme.
The scheme has the active support of the local police team. Pewsey’s Spar Shop has been pivotal in getting the scheme up and running.
Apart from the Spar Shop, the Safe Place already signed up or have been approached are: Absolute Style in River Street, Daisy’s Kitchen in the High Street, Applecart Café in the High Street, the Pewsey leisure centre and the library, and the Waterfront Bar and Bistro at Pewsey Wharf.
Anyone interested in the scheme or a local business who might be able to join it, can email pcap@hotmail.co.uk or visit this page of the PCAP website.
