Mike was up against four other Town Criers of Wiltshire - representing Trowbridge, Calne, Royal Wootton Bassett and Warminster - and with his two ‘shouts’ across the beautiful East Lawn and lake of Bowood House he showed a clean pair of tonsils to the competition to be awarded the prestigious title.

"The first was about Marlborough, the ‘Home Town’ shout, which described all the assets of the Town and why it is such a great place, followed by a shout about Bowood House.”  explained Mike.  He also added his thanks to David Sherratt who helped write the ‘Home Town’ piece.

“Next year we will be the hosts” he said. “It’s a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest, in so far that the winners have to host the event the following year”.

So next summer prepare to pin your ears back for the shouts and handbells of Wiltshire’s best Town Criers when Mike and the Town Council play host to the 2017 Championship and defend his unexpectedly won title.
