Successful Pewsey Vale students with headteacher Carol GrantSuccessful Pewsey Vale students with headteacher Carol GrantStudents, staff and parents at Pewsey Vale School are celebrating a record breaking set of GCSE results.  On Wednesday evening year eleven students were tweeted "Sleep well tonight year 11...the wait is nearly over."

At 10 o'clock on Thursday morning (August 25) they were - well slept or not - all there to open their envelopes...and to find they had achieved the school’s best ever results.  Over 60 per cent of them achieved five A*-C grades including English and Maths and over 40 per cent of students achieved more than ten high grade A*-C passes.

Headteacher Carol Grant called the results an outstanding achievement for both students and staff: “This has been an incredibly successful year for Pewsey Vale. The results are fantastic and I am delighted for the students and staff."

"It is particularly pleasing that students of all abilities have excelled this year.  They have worked incredibly hard and I am extremely proud of them all!  Top GCSE grades are increasingly hard to achieve, but we have a very talented team of teachers who work tirelessly to support students, not just in school, but after school and during weekends and holidays."

"The school has improved against every measure and with continued support from parents and our local community, we are confident that we will continue this ‘record breaking’ trend.”

Carol Grant gave particular congratulations to Ethan Stapley, Chloe Jeffries, Joe Richardson and Lora Krasteva who made exceptional progress and to the top performers for 2016 who were Alison Scott with 3A*s, 6A’s and 3B’s, Oliver Gray with 5A*s, 5A’s and 4B’s, Andrew Gray with 4A*s, 9A’s and 2B’s and Robert Boyce (last year's head boy) with 5A*s, 6A’s and 3B’s.  Robert also achieved an A grade in A/S Politics.

Chair of Governors, Tracy Richards said: “'I have been so impressed with standards of teaching and the efforts of both our teachers and students.  To achieve such fantastic results in such a volatile time in education is testimony to their hard work. Congratulations to everyone, it is well deserved.”

Carol Grant told Marlborough.News that the staff are looking forward to an exciting year ahead, further developing links with Marlborough College and the building of the new Campus sports facilities, which will provide a ‘state of the art’ leisure complex for the school and the local community.
