'Outstanding': Brendoncare Froxfield is in top one per cent of English care homes
Brendoncare Froxfield - just east of Marlborough - is celebrating after the care home regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), rated it as ‘outstanding’.
Following an inspection last month CQC inspectors gave Brendoncare Froxfield the sought after overall rating of 'Outstanding'. They found the home outstanding for being effective and caring, and rated it good for being safe, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.
Brendoncare Froxfield - in Littlecote Road, Froxfield - provides nursing and dementia care for up to 44 people and has been specifically designed to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. The purpose-built home includes an eleven bed unit for those living with dementia.
The home is part of The Brendoncare Foundation, a registered charity based in Hampshire, which runs ten care homes across the South of England. Established by the influential GP Dr Ronald Gibson, Brendoncare has been caring for older people for over thirty years.
The CQC report (December 21) praised the staff and management of the home: “We observed staff developed extremely positive caring and compassionate relationships with people...People received a high standard of care because all staff were guided by an experienced and committed management team.”
Other areas which the CQC commented on particularly were a strong emphasis on supporting people to eat and drink well, suitable levels of trained staff, compassionate end-of-life care and excellent links with healthcare professionals.
Health care professionals told the CQC inspectors: "Their communication with us is good and they use both email and telephone to inform us about our patients depending on level of urgency. I would also like to mention Y, nurse manager who is a dedicated and very hard-working lady and a pleasure to work with.
Another said: "I visit Brendoncare regularly and I am always impressed by the high standard of care provided there. I visit many homes and wish they were all this good". With less than one per cent of care homes in England rated as ‘outstanding’, this is an exceptional achievement for Brendoncare Froxfield.
Zoe McCallum, Brendoncare’s Chief Operating Officer, is immensely proud of the team at Froxfield: "Their care, compassion and person-centred approach is truly outstanding...The strong management team at Froxfield has created an environment which is highly responsive to the views of residents, relatives and staff and where the safety and wellbeing of residents is the first priority at all times.”
Deborah Ivanova, the CQC's Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, noted that the home was exceptionally caring and the high standard of care could be seen throughout the home: “We were delighted to see that people were at the heart of the service. People and their relatives were invited to share their views and were central to decisions about their care and treatment."
“Staff had excellent knowledge of what was important to people which enabled staff to tailor care to each person’s needs and wellbeing. The staff at Brendoncare Froxfield should be extremely proud of the work they do and I would like to congratulate the staff at Brendoncare Froxfield for achieving our highest rating.”
