The branch was named in a list of 54 earmarked for closure by the banking giant today. Lloyds banking group will also close 22 Halifax branches and 24 Bank of Scotland branches.

The closures effect five Wiltshire communities: branches at Corsham, Highworth, Mere, and Tidworth are also going.

In a statement, the bank said: “As a result of the way customers are choosing to use our branches, sometimes it is necessary to close, relocate or even open new branches.

“We offer a number of different ways to bank with us and even with these closures, 90 percent of Lloyds Bank customers will still have a usable branch within five miles of their home.”

The nearest branch of Lloyds for Pewsey customers is in Marlborough – seven miles away.

No timetable has been set for the closures.

Meanwhile, HSBC has confirmed when its Marlborough branch will close - at 3pm on Friday, May 5.

The closure was announced in January.
