If anyone thought the problem of juggernauts using Marlborough’s historic and very narrow Silverless Street as a cut-through was a thing of the past…check out this photo of a very large Dutch tanker attempting to make the turn into Silverless Street from Kingsbury Street on Tuesday (June 27.)
It is not a sight to reassure users of Silverless Street’s pavements that they do not risk life or limb walking along it.
The attempt to stop unsuitably large HGVs from entering Silverless Street has relied on experimental No Entry signs at the Herd Street end – and notices about Kingsbury Street’s unsuitability for HGVs at the other end by the Town Hall.
The Herd Street No Entry signs were installed on 1 February 2016 for an experimental eighteen month period – ending in August. At the latest meeting of the Community Area Transport Group (CATG) for the Marlborough area it was agreed that this experiment should be made permanent.
This decision will have to be signed off by the Wiltshire Council cabinet member in charge of highways. And CATG members agreed that this should be treated as a ‘High Priority’.
