Honeystreet Cafe - shock closure announcement
An out-of-the-blue announcement that the highly regarded Honeystreet Cafe was to close at the end of their season has taken their many regular customers completely by surprise.
“We’re very sad about it but don’t have any choice” proprietor Sophie Harper told marlborough.news. “We only found out last Friday that we couldn’t continue beyond this season.
“The owners of this property don’t want a cafe here any more, there’s nothing we can do” she added.
Will they be setting up somewhere new? “Maybe” was the reply.
Unlike many establishments the Honey Street Cafe didn’t appear to be suffering from lack of trade. Over their five years here they have built a very strong reputation for excellent food, especially their cakes and one of the Cafe’s problems has been capacity, especially when the weather isn’t perfect as seating inside is limited. On a sunny day, however, the expansive gardens running alongside the canal allowed the overspill parking area in an adjacent field to become busy as well.
“It’s a real loss” commented regular customer Ann Butler, for whom the Honeystreet Cafe was a fixture for lunch with husband John most weeks during the season. “We’ll really miss the cafe, the food was always superb and the cakes… well… just something else!” she added. "Best in Wiltshire" added John.
“Hopefully Joe and Sophie will find somewhere new, but this place, with the beautiful garden alongside the canal will take some beating” he noted, adding that “It would be great if the owners changed their minds, the closure will be a real loss to the community”.
