Town Council wins Lottery grant towards Marlborough Community & Youth Centre refurbishment

The Town Mayor (with his granddaughter) and Town Councillors celebrate the Big Lottery grantThe Town Mayor (with his granddaughter) and Town Councillors celebrate the Big Lottery grantMarlborough Town Council is delighted to have won a £9,011 grant from the Big Lottery under its Awards for All Scheme.  The money will go towards works at the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre which it took on under a seven year lease from Wiltshire Council in June.

It was formally used and equipped by Wiltshire Council as a Youth Centre.  But with the cuts to their Youth Service, they no longer had any use for the building.

This latest funding adds to a grant from the Marlborough Area Board of £10,000 as well as other contributions totalling £2,000.

The Lottery grant is being ring-fenced to cover the installation of CCTV, an access system and an intruder alarm which will help to ensure the building is secure for the whole community to use.

Refurbishment and minor works are more than halfway through and it is hoped the Centre will re-open in late November offering a multi-use hall with badminton markings, music room, office area and meeting rooms with a pool table as well as a suite of computers.

On Tuesday (October 3) the Town Mayor and a party of Town Councillors inspected the progress of the works - and celebrated the very important grant from the Big Lottery.

Town Mayor, Councillor Mervyn Hall: “We are really pleased with how quickly it’s all coming together and that we are on target for opening in a few weeks.  However, we do still need to equip the building and are hoping that local businesses and members of the community will come forward with more contributions.”

The list of items needed to equip the building includes kitchen utensils and china, furniture, white goods and a television.  The full list of equipment that will need to be provided can be obtained from the Town Council offices.

Anyone interested in hiring the building or parts of it should contact Sue Fry on 01672 512487 or email her: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Copies of the full list of the equipment still needed for the new Community and Youth Centre are available from the Town Council offices.
