The Food Gallery tries a different way to support a charity

The Food Gallery - one of Marlborough’s popular coffee shops - is treating local members of the emergency services to a free coffee, while making money for SWIFT Medics who support the emergency services across Wiltshire and beyond.

Bob Holman, owner of The Food Gallery - which was voted Best Cafe in Wiltshire 2017 - is also a Trustee of SWIFT Medics, a charity which started in Wiltshire and sends emergency response doctors to accidents and emergencies across the South West.

The offer of a free coffee is open to any member of the emergency services - ambulance, fire brigade or police.

This is being funded by asking his customers to make a voluntary small donation of £1 every time they buy a coffee at the Food Gallery.

In return, 50 pence is donated to SWIFT Medics, who are funded by the public and are regularly called out by the Emergency Services to assist them and work alongside them saving lives and helping to prevent more serious injury.

Bob Holman, who runs The Food Gallery with his wife Nikki and children Rich and Kat, believes this is a win-win scheme: “We are a community coffee shop with valued local customers, so it makes sense to ask them to help us support our vital emergency services which too often we all take for granted."

“We think it will give a boost to those often unsung heroes in the Emergency Services to know that the public value them enough to donate money for a coffee. We all like to know we are appreciated and it is particularly important for the Emergency Services to realise that."

"It is a small gesture, but we think it is an important one."

All members of the Emergency Services have to do is show their ID at The Food Gallery for a regular coffee - the scheme started last Friday (October 27).

Bob Holman's view of the scheme so far?  "It has proven to be very popular - lots of customers donating."  Now they would like more members of the Emergency Services taking advantage of this fund-raising scheme.

FOOTNOTE:  For those who like a pun with their coffee, the A-board joke in the photo above reads: "At some time most lightbulb criminals will have gone through the prism system." Really?!
