Andrews Quality Meats on Marlborough High Street is one of three butcher’s shops shortlisted for South of England Butcher Shop of the Year.  If they win, they could become the overall national winner.

The Butcher Shop of the Year awards recognises and rewards the top butchers across the UK and is judged on excellence, innovation and quality.  The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony at County Hall, London on Monday 6 November 2017.

Andrews Quality Meats took on the Marlborough shop in 2012 and since then it has seen steady growth.  Part of a trio of shops, with others in Highworth and Tockenham near Wootton Bassett, the business ethos is built on a passion for serving top-quality locally-sourced meat with traditional butcher values and the best customer service.

“Our policy is to buy local quality meat and we have full traceability on our products,” said Andy Ayris, the Director in charge of the Marlborough shop.  “We source most of our meat from farms in Wiltshire, with one supplier being Martin Gibson’s award-winning herd of Hereford cattle at Stitchcombe.  It’s less than four miles from the shop, so you can’t get much more local than that!”

“As well as selling our meat and local game, we make burgers, award-winning sausages and pies on site.  A popular innovation has been our quick meal solutions, which are often on display in our shop window, and are simple products for our customers to cook quickly and easily.”

Andy is a Master Butcher with over 40-years’ experience.  He represented Great Britain in an international butchery challenge in New Zealand in 2015.  He is passionate about using his knowledge and skills to train the young staff on his team.  Jake Laidlaw, who joined the team as an apprentice in 2012, won the regional heat of the World Skills Butchery competition in June this year.

Andy runs the business with co-Director Andy Sears – hence the business name, Andrews Quality Meats.

“To be considered amongst the top butchers in the country is a tremendous accolade.  It’s testament to our core values and the loyalty, skills and hard work of our whole team,” said Andy.
