Marlborough’s Mace Store Wins National Award

Owner Malcolm Leadbitter, who is known to his customers as Mac, accepted the award from comedian Tim Vine in a ceremony at the Ricoh Arena, home to Coventry FC, last month.

Mac has carried out extensive refurbishment over the past year and extended the range of products on offer.  He told  “We installed three new chiller cabinets for beer, wine, food to go and fresh vegetables.  We also have Beans to Cup hot drinks machine, a hot food counter and a mini bakery.”

Mac beat off competition from more than 60 shops who applied for the Most Improved Store Award.  After being shortlisted the store was visited by the CEO of Costcutter who made the winning recommendation.

Ann Wootton, a customer told “It’s brilliant, the staff are very, very helpful, most things you want are here and it’s open sensible hours.”

Mac, who knows most of his customers by name, also received congratulations from Claire Perry MP.  She said:  “I understand that many locals depend on your store for its convenience and reliability;  it is wonderful that your friendly approach has been recognized – long may it continue.”
