What is the real price of a parking space? A share of £25,000?
With all the discussion in Marlborough about parking - its availability and especially its cost - and Wiltshire Council’s consultation on its intention to raise parking charges, it was to say the least interesting to spot this estate agent's board in North Street Pewsey.
About 0.2 of an acre situated adjacent to the street and described as "Land for Parking" was being advertised for sale by auction. The guide price was £15,000+.
The auction was held at Bath Racecourse on October 26. There were 26 lots, but the sale of three was postponed. With one lot remaining unsold, the remaining twenty-two lots raised a total of £2,568,500.
The "Land for Parking" in Pewsey was sold for £25,000 - it is, after all, only a very short walk from Pewsey railway station.
0.2 of an acre is equivalent to 8,712 square feet and a normal single car garage is 100 square feet. But of course turning and fitting cars into an odd shaped piece of land would reduce the number of spaces dramatically. In addition it has a pretty difficult exit onto North Street - a busy road.
However, someone may have a bought a bargain - or perhaps they want to try and build a very small home on the land...
