Sonia WrightSonia WrightSonia Wright has owned Buckerfields Nursery, Ogbourne St George since 1994 and has run a plant stall on Marlborough market for nearly as long.  Now she is branching out to offer horticultural workshops.

Starting in the New Year the workshops will cover topics such as propagation, pruning, seed saving, growing and organising a cutting garden, how to grow and use herbs, the winter garden, colour and form for the dark days.

Sonia has a lifelong passion for plants and has produced three award-winning gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show.  Last year her Nepeta Crystal Cloud was one of the top five new plants at Chelsea.

She has designed and built gardens of all sizes in the Highlands of Scotland, London and the West Country.  She has also appeared on BBC TV’s Gardener’s World.

Sonia told,  “I’ve been thinking about offering workshops for a long time.  I often give talks to gardening clubs and a lot of people come to the market and ask questions.  I learned by experience and making mistakes.  Now, through the workshops, I hope I can pass on some of my knowledge.”

The workshops will be held at Buckerfields Nursery and are aimed at all levels of ability.  Each workshop will last from 10 am to 3pm and will include, a morning talk followed by practical hands-on experience. There will be a maximum of ten participants and there will be plenty of time for informal discussion.  Refreshments, including lunch will be provided.

The cost of each workshop will be £75 and will also include a 10% discount on any plants purchased.  Christmas vouchers are available and recipients can choose to spend the voucher on workshops or plants.

Both the market stall and Buckerfields Nursery offer plants for the house and garden.  As well as good sized plants for herbaceous borders, shade, pots and containers, there are bulbs and roses, trees, shrubs, climbers and hedging and much more.  A range of terracotta pots, some already planted, are available. Some rare or unusual plants for collectors and enthusiasts can also be purchased.

Buckerfields Nursery is open every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10 – 6.

Sonia encourages her customers to collect a questionnaire from her at the market or by email so she can tailor her workshops to customer requirements.  She can be contacted on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or
