Pewsey's Shed Alehouse yet again proves that 'small is beautiful' in Claire Perry's Best Local Pub awards

Gordon and Sam Edwards outside the award-winning Shed Alehouse in North St, PewseyGordon and Sam Edwards outside the award-winning Shed Alehouse in North St, PewseyThe Shed Alehouse in Pewsey has picked up yet another award, this time voted the 'Best Pub for Drinks' in Devizes MP Claire Perry's Constituency-wide 'Best Local Pub Awards'.

Following the recent triumph at the Swindon CAMRA Beer Festival, where Shed Alehouse landlord and brewer Gordon Edwards won 'The Beer of the Festival' award for his 'Minal Tap' brew, and the Shed's Cask Marque award in August, this marks a very successful year for what is probably the smallest and most unusual, but widely respected and enjoyed pub anywhere in the area around Marlborough.

Hundreds of votes were cast for pubs across the Devizes Constituency but it was The Shed that came out on top for the all-important category of 'Best for Drinks'.  The Shed Alehouse is a small but basic pub.  No loud music, distracting television or flickering gaming machines, just simply a place to relax and chat with friends and strangers alike, whilst enjoying excellent beer from craft or microbreweries (incliding Gordon's own brews), many of which will be locally based.  If beer isn't your tipple then there is a selection of carefully chosen wines (incuding Prosecco) and soft drinks.

Gordon, with his wife Sam started the Shed Alehouse just over two years ago when Gordon took voluntary redundancy from Honda in Swindon and took the plunge to turn what was a dedicated hobby into a viable business, and the awards achieved over the past few months has shown how successful they have been.

In announcing the results of the Awards, Claire Perry said:  “A huge well done to the winning pubs and thanks to everyone who voted in the awards.  Championing our local pubs is really important to me as pubs play an incredible role at the heart of many local communities and help create thousands of local jobs.

I am keen to do everything I can to support our local pubs, breweries and hospitality businesses and I am looking forward to visiting the pubs in the next few weeks to present their winners’ certificates and meeting everyone who voted.”
