Can you help? Volunteers wanted for Marlborough's Youth Clubs
The newly renovated Marlborough Community and Youth Centre opened at the beginning of the year and Marlborough’s young people are enjoying the new facilities on offer at the Friday evening Youth Club. These include a large hall, a well equipped kitchen area and lounge, a meeting room, a fully soundproofed music room complete with drum kit and electric organ, computers and a Smart TV.
Teens in Marlborough actually have two youth clubs on offer. On a Thursday evening they can choose to attend the Youth Club held at the Wesley Hall, Oxford Street.
However, more volunteers are required to cope with growing popularity of these groups.
Janneke Blokland, who works with the Thursday evening group, told marlborough.news: “Both groups are well-attended, and provide an invaluable opportunity for young people to meet and relax in a safe and friendly place.
However, both groups struggle with finding enough volunteers to keep going. Given the number of young people, each night needs to be staffed by at least three people, so we need quite a large pool of volunteers to fill a rota. “
Janneke says, “It would be great if we can keep running both groups and continue to explore what else we may be able to offer to the young people in our Town.”
