New bike shop for Marlborough in time for Spring

John Joel outside the new Marlborough Bike Company shop on Kingsbury StreetJohn Joel outside the new Marlborough Bike Company shop on Kingsbury StreetBike enthusiast John Joel has always wanted to own a bike shop.  His dream will come true when The Marlborough Bike Company, a brand new, independent cycle retailer opens in lower Kingsbury Street (opposite the town Hall) in a few weeks’ time on Saturday 17 March - just in time for Spring.

John, who has over fifteen years of experience in the bike industry, told marlborough.news:  “The shop will be a traditional family bike shop for the community.  I have always liked Marlborough and the way the High Street operates and is full of independent retailers.  The shop is a long term venture.  I want to build something for my kids to inherit and take on.”

John’s plans are to make the shop the hub of Marlborough’s cycling community with weekly events, group rides and socials.  Future plans for the store also include running a local summer cyclocross race series.

The shop will offer cycle sales, servicing, parts and accessories.  It will also offer families a part exchange service.  If a child has outgrown a bike it will be possible to exchange it for the next size.  FROG a Berkshire based company offer a scheme which allows a ‘leapfrog’ to the next bike size.  Servicing and repairs for any brand of bike can be completed, regardless of where the bike was originally purchased.  Custom bike builds and cycle fitting are also on offer.  They can even help you out if you’ve got a puncture on your pushchair!

There will be a wide range of road bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes on offer in the shop.  One of the biggest and most comprehensive makes of bikes on the market at the moment – GIANT will be there, together with WHYTE, a British design company that manufactures geometry pioneered mountain bikes.  There will be clothing from the Scotland based brand Endura, parts and accessories, from lights and mudguards to pumps and tools, with a number of exciting brands still to be announced.

The grand opening launch of the shop with balloons, cake and goody bags from bike suppliers will take place on Saturday, March 17.

“We’re really proud of our bike shop on the corner and the products and services we can offer to the Marlborough community.  For years it has been my dream to open my own store, and I’m so excited that this dream is about to become our reality.  Myself and the team look forward to welcoming you into the shop soon.”  added John.
