A sprinkling of snow covers any rubbish waiting to be picked up on The GreenMarlborough’s community litter pick scheduled to take place this weekend, March 2 to 4 has been postponed for two weeks until 16-18 March. The ‘Beast from the East’ is likely to hide any litter under a blanket of snow as well as creating safety issues for volunteers negotiating hazardous snowy and icy pavements.

Steve Pascall, Chairman of Marlborough in Bloom, said, “It’s important to note that the event hasn’t been cancelled, just postponed.  We are now waiting to hear from Wiltshire Council about a new date.”

The community litter pick was to be part of the countrywide Great British Spring Clean  Campaign.  The campaign aims to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches.

Town councillors, volunteers from Marlborough in Bloom and ARK have been encouraging people to become Litter Heroes and join the event under the slogan “Let’s Make Marlborough Marvellous.”

Instead the message for this weekend is to be -  stay warm and safe. Spring must be just around the corner.
