An end to plastic packaging - zero waste shop coming to Marlborough

Hayley Lambert outside her Zero Waste Shop in Hughenden YardHayley Lambert outside her Zero Waste Shop in Hughenden Yard“Start saving your containers now,” Hayley Lambert, owner of a soon-to-open new zero waste shop told marlborough.news.  'Packaging NOT Included' will be opening at 7 Hughenden Yard, next to Café Thirty8 towards the end of February.  As well as offering customers a range of local organic foods and personal care items, customers will be encouraged to bring their own storage containers to be filled with items in the shop.

“We will have some practical, eco and stylish containers for purchase in the shop but we want to encourage reuse and recycling as much as possible.” added Hayley.

“There is a growing awareness in the general public about the damage plastic is doing to the environment and the number of toxins we come across in our daily life.  People want to change their shopping habits and find it frustrating how much packaging there is.”

“But unless you live near a shop that does unpackaged food your options are limited.  My shop will provide another choice for people and hopefully there are enough people who want to make that choice.”

The shop will be selling fruit and vegetables from Purton House Organics, fresh bread from Rudies, a new baker in town who, according to Hayley “makes a mean sourdough.”

There will be dried foods such as pasta, rice, beans, nuts, grains, seeds, dried fruit, flour, sugar, breakfast cereal.  Cleaning products and personal hygiene products on offer will be organic and chemical free.

Liquids include olive oil and nut milk produced by the shop’s nut milk machine.  There will also be a nut butter grinder to produce fresh peanut butter straight into your own jar.

Hayley, who currently works as a freelance saxophonist and teacher, is looking forward to chatting to customers in the shop.  “I am open to suggestions which will mean expanding the range of goods on offer.  The shop is really aimed at people in the local area who would like to do their shopping in a different way. “
