Climate crisis banner appears on Marlborough’s Town Hall
A banner campaigning about the 'Climate Crisis' appeared - fairly briefly - on the Town Hall early on the morning of Wednesday, February 13 warning of drought, storms, loss of global food production and mass migration.
Today, Friday, February 15, climate change is in the news again as hundreds of thousands of school children and students in over sixty towns and cities in the UK are participating in Youthstrike4climate day.
However, marlborough.news could not find any Marlborough students who are participating in today’s school strike.
Nevertheless, groups of climate campaigners are on the increase and XR Extinction Rebellion Devizes will be lobbying outside County Hall, Trowbridge on February 26 where the Climate Emergency motion will be discussed.
They will be urging Wiltshire Council to take action to minimise the effects of climate change. This they say can be done by agreeing a cross party motion to declare a climate emergency and by aiming to make the county carbon neutral by implementing best practice methods to reduce global warming to less than 1.5 C.
Youth climate protest groups and demonstrations are growing around the world. Sixteen year old Greta Thunberg from Sweden started the youth climate protest movement when she demonstrated outside the Swedish parliament last August.
There have already been thousands of youth protests in Europe, the USA and many other countries. A global demonstration is planned for March 15.
