Hughenden Yard: Marlborough’s ‘Packaging Not Included’ is a big hit with shoppersHayley Lambert’s Packaging Not Included zero waste shop in Hughenden Yard opened its doors for the first time on Saturday (February 23).
Shoppers flocked from near and far to fill their own containers with an array of dried fruit, nuts and cereals. The peanut butter machine was in overdrive as well as the oatly milk machine. Bread from Rudi’s Bakery had sold out by midday.
Joy Bates had come to Marlborough from Highworth : ‘I love it. I’ve been waiting for ages for a shop like this. Now it’s relatively local so I’m very happy. There’s a good variety of products and I’m happy to travel.”
Anne Barber-Stalkey from Collingbourne Ducis echoed these sentiments: "It’s a brilliant idea. I saw it on Facebook and I’ll definitely be shopping here. I’ve brought in my bag and jars to be ready.”
Janet and Victor Puddick had travelled all the way from Bicester : “We don’t have any shops like this down our way. It’s amazing. It makes everybody much more aware of all the single use plastic in the supermarkets. I’ve just filled one container – the contents would be in four plastic bags in the supermarket.”
Hayley told marlborough.news : “It’s been really busy – a steady stream of people and everyone’s been really positive. The peanut butter is hugely popular and the dried fruits, especially the mango and apricot.”
“We have a good variety of vegetables from Purton House Organics too. I’ve already had a few good suggestions for extra items to buy in such as finer porridge oats, sunflower oil and giant couscous.”
