'Beating the Bounds' - 12-mile Spring Boundary Walk around Marlborough to raise funs for Marlborough Lions

Last year's group of intrepid ramblers assembled outside the Youth Centre starting pointLast year's group of intrepid ramblers assembled outside the Youth Centre starting pointOn Sunday 24 March Marlborough & District Lions will be holding 'Beating the Bounds' - a twelve mile walk following the civic boundary of the town.

Technically it will deviate slightly from the actual boundary route, as explains Debbie Wilson, President of Marlborough & District Lions:  "Due to some of the route having been used for crops etc. we were unable to completely do the same route as was historically used".  She added: "We have kept it as close as possible, using public footpaths the whole way and have hence changed the name to The Marlborough & District Lions Club Spring Boundary Walk".

The walk is open to everyone and Debbie's husband and fellow Lion, Councillor Andy Wilson managed to secure the committment to attend from many of the Town Councillors at last Monday's (18 February) Town Council meeting.

The Lions are asking for a £5 minimum donation from each of the walkers taking part with all proceeds going to support the local community.  "Every year Marlborough & District Lions distribute around £15,000 to worthwhile causes, including local individuals, families and groups that have approached us when in need of support" said Debbie, adding that "this is only one of the many events we organise to raise funds, and the next is an Abba Tribute Night at The Town Hall on Friday 15 March".

It's not a 'walk in the park', rather something a but more strenuous and challenging as Debbie pointed out:  "The walk is 12 miles so anyone taking part must be suitably fit", suggesting that if anyone who wanted to walk but was a bit unsure, they could ask their GP for advice, or even if they started out, as the route is all the way around the town no-one will be too far away from seeking rest and recuperation on the High Street if the full distance was too much.

"The route will be  sign-posted and marshalled through-out, so it's unlikely that anyone will get lost", adding that "most people will take 5-6 hours to get all the way round"

Debbie also noted a vote of thanks to sponsors of the waltk - particularly Earth Line, Riverside Vets,  Warwick Marsden Group and Thomas Mae who have helped make the event possible.
