Marlborough's Mencap group look forward to a day out funded by Waitrose's Green Token scheme

Mencap Marlborough chairman Councillor Noel Barrett-Morton accepted the large green cheque from Waitrose Marlborough manager, Ian Burdekin and Community Champion Lisa Wakeham at the regular Mencap Group Tuesday morning meet at the Marlborough Town FC clubhouse in Elcot Lane.

"Many thanks to Ian, Lisa, the staff of Marlborough Waitrose and of course all the shoppers who chose to put their green tokens in the Mencap Marlborough Group box" said chair Noel Barrett-Morton.  "We are indebted to Waitrose, they have proved to be great supporters of this important charity, enabling many extra things to happen that we couldn't otherwise afford" he added.

"This will go towards a day out for the members" Cllr Barrett-Morton explained.  "This will involve the hire of a special coach with a wheelchair hoist and this generous donation will be a big help".

This morning's meet (Tuesday) is the very popular 'Inside Out Club', which is run by Sue Bailey and Mandy Rossi and supported by many volunteers, and takes place every Tuesday at the MTFC clubhouse where members can enjoy a morning of activities and tea and coffee, whilst meeting each other and spending time with the volunteers.
