Marlborough business woman selected as LibDem's Devizes constituency candidate for next General Election

Mrs Jo WalthamMrs Jo WalthamJo Waltham - a Marlborough business woman and mum - has been selected as the Liberal Democrats' prospective parliamentary candidate for the Devizes constituency at the next General Election.

The decision was made at the members' meeting in Devizes on Saturday, March 9 and declared by Chair James Kay:  “I am very pleased to announce on behalf of the Executive Committee that this afternoon members selected Jo Waltham to the position of Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Devizes Constituency."

"Jo lives in Marlborough and has worked hard for the local Party since joining during the General election campaign in 2017.  We look forward to giving her our support in building the Liberal Democrat vote within the constituency in the run up to the next General Election, whenever that may be.”

Jo Waltham has been campaigning locally on SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) travel times to school.  She has brought the example of one Marlborough child who was spending two hours travelling each way between Marlborough and Rowde, to the attention of Marlborough Town Council and Wiltshire Council.

She has also been campaigning to keep a special school at Rowdeford, so Marlborough children do not have even further to travel in the future.

Jo Waltham told marlborough.news: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be selected by the Liberal Democrats in my home constituency of Devizes. Devizes is a beautiful, rural constituency, but essential services are suffering due to cuts to Wiltshire Council’s budget and the most vulnerable in society are suffering the most."

"Just last week I heard that the New Road Day Centre is losing its grant. It’s time the Tory policy of reducing local government funding was reversed, as it is affecting everything from potholes to adult social care.”
