Marlborough gears up for new season of in Bloom - and watch last year's success on BBC2

pic: Eric Gilbertpic: Eric GilbertThis year Marlborough is aiming high:  the 'Champion of Champions' Cup' in the Royal Horticultural Society's 'South West in Bloom' competition.

Marlborough's success has been relentlessly progressive over recent years, achieving Silver Gilt awards in both 2015 and 2016, followed by Gold Cup awards for the past two years.  Where next?  Aim high - go for the Gold Cup of the Champion of Champions.

The Marlborough in Bloom team are looking for help:  volunteers, supporters, sponsors - residents and local organisations that can provide the assistance to make this year's entry as strong and as successful as possible.

The judging days are between 3 and 17 July, so in preparation the team need to be able to source all of the plants, make or buy the planters - which will need to be prepared to look their best - and then manage the continuous process of weeding, adding soil, watering and generally attending to all the displays around the town so that Marlborough can truly be 'in bloom' for the judging days in July.

Anyone able to assist can call either of the two following members of the team:  Ann on 01672 513022 or Diana on 07798 845476.

"Please come and help, every bit of assistance will make the goal just that bit more achievable" said Marlborough in Bloom committee member (and photographer) Eric Gilbert.

Last year's efforts were covered by the BBC for the 'Britain in Bloom series, and on 12 April BBC2 will be screening the Marlborough episode, possibly the first time that Marlborough has had a dedicated programme broadcast on a national channel since Denis Pitts' excellent and memorable 'Omnibus' documentary 'What the hell ever happens in Marlborough' back in 1969, which unfortunately isn't available to view any more on the BBC archive.
