This followed the issuing of a Notice by Wiltshire Council that the Town Council had a legal obligation to clear all the play equipment by 1 May in readiness for the commencement of development work on the site.

Developers Greensquare Homes are duty bound to replace the play area, but as reported on 19 February this may be some way off, possibly two years or even more.

"This was delayed until the last minute so our community’s young people could enjoy the play area as long as possible and especially during the Easter school holidays." stated Town Clerk, Shelley Parker, when asked about the timing of the work.

The Play area will likely be the last pice of the development to be completed - for reasons of safety and access - and until then residents will have to travel to one of the other play areas in the town - the new Coopers Meadow  playground adjacent to the George Lane car park and River Kennet which was opened last November, the Jubilee Field playground in Manton, the 'Rec' (Recreation Ground), just off Salisbury Road or the swings and trim trail up on The Common.
