REMINDER: Overnight closure of A4 west of Marlborough for most of May

The stretch of the A4 to the west of Marlborough between the High Street and Golding Avenue (see map below) will be closed overnight between 7pm and 6am for major resurfacing work for most of next month, between 7 and 31 May.

 

A notorious piece of road which has been patched repeatedly over the past few years (most recently around the College a month or so back), this major work should mean that the potholes which reccur due to poor previous surfacing should be a thing of the past.

 

Regular users of this stretch will already be aware as signage has been extensive for some while with electronic signs sited at Clatford and by The College with numerous yellow information signs placed at feeder road junctions.

 

But for others this may be news, so if planning a journey west of Marlborough during any May evening after Monday 7 think to find an alternative route to the A4.

 

Wiltshire Council have circulated the map below (click to enlarge) which shows the section to be resurfaced in red with the alternative route in green.  So if travelling to Marlborough from Fyfield, Lockeridge, West Overton or East Kennett, or any of the commmunities to the west of the town the recommended route is to drive to Devizes, turn left at the first roundabout and then venture through Horton, All Cannings to Pewsey, and then to turn left on to the A345 towards Marlborough.

 Contractors Atkins, managing the project state in a letter to residents that the timings 'may over run due to uncontrollable circumstances such as plant breakdowns', but for any amendments to times or dates signs will give as much advance warning as possible.

 

Pedestrian access will be unaffected and residents along this stretch will be allowed access, supervised by 'traffic management operatives'.
