It's been a long journey to arrive at the official opening. Hilda Moore, past Chair and coach for Marlborough Tennis commented: "We are thrilled to be able to show the whole community the fabulous new six court facility that now exists here at Port Hill next to Marlborough Golf Club. The tennis is fantastic and with a growing membership the opportunity to meet others and play is great".
Marlborough Tennis is focused on opening up tennis to everyone within and around the Marlborough area who fancies wielding a racket. Gone are the old ideas of 'the tennis club' as representing a strata within society, replaced by welcoming encouragements of tennis as a game for all to learn, play and above all, enjoy.
Hilda added: "We are lucky to have the support of the town and Golf Club to establish this which has enabled our coach Joe Revelle to bring tennis into local schools. From adult cardio to childrens summer camps and everything in between this really is a chance for everyone to have a go and get fit for life. We really hope that kids and adults will sign up for this rare opportunity to play with the pros - no matter whether you can play tennis already or not - or just join us for a burger and see whats going on".
The six courts at Port Hill are all-weather and floodlit so can be used for most of the year and at times that would otherwise have proved difficult in days past.
As part of Marlborough Tennis' mission to open the game up to the whole community, as from Saturday's official opening anyone will be able to take advantage of a new 'pay and play' scheme where they will be able to book a court and have access to play for an hour with out becoming a member. You will be able to book online via the website www.marlboroughtennis.co.uk
Saturday's Official Opening coaching sessions are for players of all ages and levels of skill - from 6-10 year olds right through to 'Master Class' standard players (and all points between).
There is a resident coach, Joe Revelle who is able to arrange and offer coaching at other times, but it's a facility to be used by everyone who wants to play, inspired by Wimbledon, or with by the layers of dust on the racket in the cupboard. Click their website link (above) to find out more.
