County Jewellers after the break-inCounty Jewellers after the break-inPolice are investigating two burglaries at retail premises in Marlborough.

The first incident happened overnight - after 6pm on 9-10 June.  The front door to Costa Coffee was forced open and a safe containing a large amount of cash and a laptop was stolen from a staff office.

Lockers were also rummaged through and the contents of filing cabinets were strewn across the floor.

Det Con Cerys Powell said: “We believe this incident happened between approximately 1.30am and 2.30am on June 10 and a vehicle was involved, which travelled onto the High Street from the rugby club side of the town.”

The same evening thieves attempted to break in through the front door of another property which was captured on CCTV although the assailants weren't successful.

The second incident happened in the early hours of June 12.  County Jewellers in Hughenden Yard was broken into and the premises was ransacked.  It is believed offenders arrived at the scene in a grey Audi Q5 taking a safe with them.  It appears that they drove their vehicle up to the door of the premises and closed the gate that leads back into the High Street to give themselves privacy.

A number of items of jewellery were stolen as well as the safe and jewellery boxes, some of these were later found discarded in a field in Ogbourne St Andrew.

Det Con Powell:  “We believe both of these incidents required careful planning – we are keeping an open mind but we believe they may be linked.”

“We’d urge anyone with information on either of these incidents to get in touch via 101 and quote crime reference number 54190055475 or 54190056291.”
