The Burbage Christmas Tree Sale celebrates its 25th anniversary - with 700 trees to choose from

Will this fit in the front room? Will this fit in the front room? The ever popular and successful Burbage Christmas Tree Sale & Market is this year celebrating its twenty-fifth  anniversary on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 with the biggest and best event yet.

‘Getting a tree from Burbage’ has become part of the Christmas tradition for many families in the area, and has turned choosing a Christmas tree into a festive day out.

There will be a big range of high-quality, freshly-cut British trees available to choose from - 700 trees in all.  And there is a Christmas market with around 50 stalls, live music from several local choirs and bands, refreshments including hotdogs and mulled wine and much more.

The event has grown considerably from its humble beginnings two decades ago. It all began when funds were needed to repair the roof of the village church.

Savernake Forest had recently ceased its tree sales and gave a remaining plantation of growing Christmas trees to the village. Local people cut down the trees from the forest and sold them on the green outside the church in Burbage village.

A quarter of a century later and the trees from the forest are gone, but the tree-selling tradition remains and is bigger than ever. In 2018 the event attracted well over 2,500 visitors, sold more than 700 trees and raised in excess of £20,000 for All Saints Church.

The event's organiser is George Gordon: “We buy the trees in now, but they are always locally sourced when possible. Apart from that nothing has really changed – it’s just got a lot bigger and continues to grow each year!"

"The residents of Burbage love this event, and we are very grateful for the huge amount of support they give us. We are run entirely by volunteers and have an army of more than 50 people who help to make this event so special.”

Local businesses are also hugely supportive of this event, with Burbage-based business Soft Options sponsoring the event this year.

George Gordon added: “There’s such a great atmosphere at the Burbage Tree Sale that people come back year after year. We look forward to welcoming everyone once again on the 7 and 8 December.”

The busiest time to attend is on the Saturday morning, when trees sell at a rate of one or more per minute...hurry while stocks last.
