Marlborough Rugby Football Club’s Summer Ball on June 10, now in its fifth year will be bigger and better than ever before with two major bands – ‘iPop’ and ‘The Noise Next Door’ performing.
Now a very popular fixture in Marlborough’s social calendar, more than 400 people attended last year’s Ball and together with Devizes Young Farmers it helped to raise £10,000 for Julia’s House in Devizes.
This year’s bands are big with national reputations. ‘iPop’ play at venues all over the country and have an extensive playlist which includes music from Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Rhianna, Pharrell, Daft Punk, Jess Glynn, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Florence & The Machine, Kings Of Leon, Killers, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, and many more!
‘The Noise Next Door’ have had sell out performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and have appeared on BBC TV. They take audience suggestions and turn them into witty scenes and songs in a flash.
Amanda Palmer, organiser, told marlborough.news, “I would like to thank our wonderful supporters who helped to make the 2016 Ball so successful, from those who generously donated auction items to the local businesses who sponsored the evening in some way. We want to raise money for a local charity this year and we have chosen to support the renovation project of the Marlborough Victorian Cemetery. With its proximity to the Rugby Club, this is a very suitable charity for us to support.”
The Friends of the Victorian Cemetery have worked over the last three years to establish the old cemetery as a wildflower area. The aim is provide a tranquil and beautiful area to visit and to sit away from the hustle and bustle of the town. In 2015 South West in Bloom granted an ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ award to the project. In 2016 more wild flowers were added as well as a beehive. More renovations are planned.
Marlborough Summer Ball 2017 will take place in a marquee for 500 guests in front of the club house on the common. A £70 per person ticket will include reception drinks, a three course meal, dancing and entertainment from the bands. There will be a raffle and small auction. The evening begins at 6.30pm and ends at midnight, with carriages at 1 am!
