Pelham puppets: made in Marlborough, on view in Chippenham
Many people in and around Marlborough have fond memories of the puppet factory in London Road (now Pelhams Court) and the man who started the company, Bob Pelham. A collection of Pelham Puppets that was featured on Collectaholics (BBC2) last year will be on show at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham on Saturday, October 22..
The exhibition will reveal the history, production methods and show some great examples of the puppets made at the factory in Marlborough.
The company had workshops in the town from 1947 to 1986. It produced millions of puppets which have now become highly collectible. The bulk of the historical records for Pelham Puppets Ltd are now held by the Wiltshire Archives at Chippenham.
People who have stories about the puppet factory, personal photographs or absolutely anything else Pelham-related, are urged to bring them on the day - they will get a ‘no-strings attached’ welcome!
This exhibition forms part of the Family Fun Day at the History Centre, with lots of children’s activities and demos. There will be a special guest appearance by Time Team's Phil Harding at twelve noon.
