Rick Stein guest house welcomed by Marlborough town councillors
Members of Marlborough Town Council's planning committee have voted overwhelmingly to welcome the planning applications by the Rick Stein organisation to turn No 42, The High Street into a guest house.
None of the committee members voted against the motion to welcome this addition to the High Street's visitors' accommodation.
No. 42 is next door to Lloran House which is now the Rick Stein restaurant. No. 42 has been empty for six months - since the estate agent Smiths Gore was taken over by Savills.
The plan is to make the ground floor into a reception and bar area, with four en suite guest rooms on the upper floors.
The only doubt councillors had was about the provision of six parking spaces - two for staff and four for guests - at the back of the building. It was thought the space available was 'tight' and some residents of the houses behind the building were worried about this parking provision.
The planning applications - for full planning permission and listed building consent - will be decided by Wiltshire Council
