Claire Perry backs third runway for Heathrow

Written by Tony Millett.

Devizes constituency MP Claire Perry is backing the government's decision to build a third runway at Heathrow rather than at Gatwick.

Interviewed on BBC Radio 4's World at One (October 25) as a former transport minister, she said: "We have got to get on with this."   But she did admit: "It's going to be difficult to get it through."

But she expects construction work to begin in 2020.  She thinks Britain is being left behind in the league of international air transport: "It's absolutely the right thing to do and it's in the national interest...While other countries roar ahead, this country is great at obfuscation and delay."
